In your case, 16GB may work fine for your lightroom needs without seeing too much performance difference if your workloads often don’t stress the memory to a high level. If an app is properly optimized, and still uses lots ram, that means your workload does require more RAM to run at best possible speeds. using more RAM isn’t always a bad thing (depending on situations, poorly optimized apps can overuse RAM) In other words, when you have sufficient RAM left, your performance = “not throttled” if it’s maxed out, your performance = “throttled”.Īpps use more ram to “maximize” performance, as cached memory gets accessed way faster, and unused memory is wasted. I have to hold my entire live performance on an external SSD for it to be usable. Between the memory swap and lack of storage it really puts pressure on things. Hell, it can’t even keep up with song project files and audio mastering projects in Logic. I get system overload messages constantly and my SSD cannot keep up with large Ableton sessions when I’m performing live. the Apple StudioDisplay) to that Mac Studio you are now looking at 3700 at the very least. And while true that negates that the 27' iMac came with a great 5K display, whereas that 2399 Mac Studio bundle will come with a junk display. Really kicking myself for at least not getting more storage. Now you might argue, well the previous 27' iMac was also about 2399. Everyone told me 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD would be enough for me in a 15” MBP a few years ago.
